2 teens in custody after dozens of racist, vulgar graffiti incidents in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — Columbus police have taken two teenagers into custody and are searching for a third in connection to vandalized homes and cars Friday night with spray paint.

Police said more than 50 incidents were reported throughout the city. Some of the graffiti found on buildings and cars contained racist and vulgar remarks.

Officers say these acts have no place in their community, especially when people are falling on hard times.

“They are frustrated with the coronavirus pandemic and the stress of being out of work or having hours limited,” said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department. “There is a lot of hardship going around and to add on this on top of that for our residents, we are very saddened by that.”

If you have property was damage or vandalized, you’re encouraged to notify Columbus police.
