4 arrested, 1 wanted in overnight Terre Haute armed robberies
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – It was a very busy night for Terre Haute Police after they responded to three armed robberies.
Terre Haute Police Lt. Ed Tompkins is reporting two people have been arrested for two of the three, and two other people have been taken into custody in connection to the third.
The first happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Marathon station located at 13th and Locust. Police say the suspect was a black male, wearing a mask and a grey or black hoodie.
He showed a long rifle, said to resemble an army gun, and then took off. Then about 10 minutes later, Terre Haute Police were called to the Phillips 66 Jiffy on North 3rd Street.
Police say two black males robbed the store. One was armed with an AK-47 while the other had a handgun.
Police began chasing a suspect vehicle shortly after that led them through downtown Terre Haute. At one point, the chase came right past 24-Hour News 8’s WTHI-TV studios with police and the suspect’s vehicle heading in the wrong direction down Ohio Street.
The chase ended when the vehicle crashed behind Graham Grain on South U-S Highway 41. The AK-47 and a large amount of money were found and taken by police.
Josef Cannon, 23 of Indianapolis, and Adrian Green, 25 of Indianapolis, were arrested and booked into the Vigo County Jail. Green is facing four counts of armed robbery, resisting law enforcement, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana. Cannon is facing charges of robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Both are scheduled to appear in court today. Police are still looking for a third suspect in connection to these two armed robberies.
Then, the third armed robbery happened around 2:30 Wednesday morning. THPD was called to the Phillips 66 Jiffy on North Fruitridge, across from Terre Haute North Vigo High School. Lt Tompkins reports they don’t think this armed robbery is connected to the other two.
Police say that a short white man, wearing a mask, pulled a pistol on the store employee.
He got away with an undisclosed amount of money wearing a dark track suit.
Officials report two people were taken into custody. Lewis Kratzer, 24 of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday. He is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and resisting law enforcement.
Ronald Decker, 24 of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail after 6 a.m. He is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, vehicle theft, reckless driving and two counts of resisting law enforcement.
Kratzer and Decker are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
