6 fires in Lawrence County deemed arsons; reward offered

OOLITIC, Ind. (WISH) — A reward of up to $5,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest of an arsonist after six fires occurred in an hour in an area west of this Lawrence County town. 

Indiana Homeland Security said Thursday that the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about the six arsons that occurred between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office said the arsons happened in the Greer Road area west of Oolitic in northwest Lawrence County. The office did not immediately know specific addresses on Thursday afternoon. Oolitic is about 50 miles southwest of Indianapolis. 

The Times-Mail of Bedford reported the fires involved houses and abandoned trailers in the Oolitic and Fayetteville areas along Greer Lane and Patton Hill Road. Seven fire departments were called out to battle the fires. 

Anyone with information about the fires was urged to call the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department in Bedford at 812-275-3316 and ask for dispatch, or the Indiana Arson Hotline at 800-382-4628.
