Armed robbery suspect arrested after stabbing police dog

GAS CITY, Ind. (WISH) — A 20-year-old was arrested Monday morning after robbing a Grant County gas station and stabbing a police dog.

Around 3 a.m., local law enforcement officers responded to a McClure Gas Station in the 200 block of West Main Street in Gas City on reports of an armed robbery.

The suspect, Nicholas Haneline, 20, was later located in the area.

Prior to being taken into custody, Haneline stabbed a Grant County Sheriff Department K9, Kiro, in the chest area.

K9 Kiro was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery, the Gas City Police Department said in a release.

Haneline is being held at the Grant County Jail on a $60,000 bond. He is charged with robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, intimidation, resisting law enforcement and striking a law enforcement animal.
