Arrest made in November fatal shooting of Marion man

MARION, Ind. (WANE) A teenager was arrested late Tuesday for the November fatal shooting of a Marion man outside of his home.

Marion Police said early Wednesday that detectives arrested 17-year-old Shakur Johnson on a murder charge in connection with the Nov. 12 shooting of Mark Cotton Jr. outside of Cotton’s Nebraska Street home.

An autopsy on 23-year-old Cotton showed he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

“I’m extremely proud of the officers and dispatchers who handled the call initially and our fantastic team of detectives who doggedly worked this case,” Marion Police Chief David Gilbert said. “These professionals were determined to provide the first step in the process of understanding for the victim’s family and the application of justice in our community. We look forward to seeing the results of Prosecutor (James) Luttrull’s efforts in prosecuting this important case and will assist him in any way.”

Johnson is being held in the Grant County Jail without bond.
