Blackburn neighbor says arrest is a ‘huge relief’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The neighborhood watch captain in Amanda Blackburn’s community said the news of an arrest being made in the case is a huge relief.

“We’re very happy with the news. It just affirms our confidence in IMPD’s homicide unit,” Ryan McConnell said.

Neighbors in Blackburn’s neighborhood have worked tirelessly since the 28-year-old’s murder, passing out flyers, working with police and joining together for neighborhood watch group meetings.

McConnell said Monday they will continue to maintain their sense of community in the future.

“I think we continue that unity and that firmness that we’ve gained throughout this. There’s such a rich bond between all of us as neighbors. We try to educate the community outside of ours – this is what you have to do,” McConnell said. “If you want to see crimes solved in your area, you have to work with police. You have to talk to the media. You have to do these things, and really fight for this. And do it together. With each other.”

“This is all for Amanda,” he said.
