INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A child is dead following a shooting on the city’s near northeast side.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 3200 block of North Tacoma Avenue for a report of a person shot around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday evening.
After officers arrived on the scene, a male juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound, was located.
Police said they learned that a bullet went through a home and hit the child.
The child was taken to the hospital for treatment where he later died.
He has since been identified by the Marion County Coroner’s Office as eight-year-old Rodgerick Payne, Jr.
The child’s guardians were home at the time of the shooting. No one else in the home was injured.
No information about a possible suspect has also not been released.
The fatal shooting remains under investigation.
