Coroner IDs victim of fatal shooting along East Washington Street as 17-year-old boy

UPDATE: The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the juvenile who died after a shooting along East Washington Street as 17-year-old Donald Thomas.

Thomas died after a shooting Sunday night at North Colorado Avenue and East Washington Street.

No other details were released by the coroner’s office.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A male has died in a Sunday night shooting on the east side, police said.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and emergency medical crews were sent to a report of a person shot about 9:40 p.m. Sunday at North Colorado Avenue and East Washington Street. That stretch of Washington Street is between Sherman Drive and Emerson Avenue.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office on Monday afternoon said the victim, a male, has not been positively identified but is believed to be a 17-year-old boy.

Police said the person shot was a male but did not indicate whether it was an adult or a child.

Police did not immediately have any information on a suspect or whether a threat remains in the area.

“INDIANAPOLIS –  On September 13, 2020, just after 9:40 p.m. Officers with The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were dispatched to N Colorado Ave/ E Washington St in response to a person shot. When officers arrived, they located a male suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wound(s). IEMS responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

“Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The MCCO will release the name of the decedent once proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
