Crews search 2 locations for missing 8-month-old

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Law-enforcement crews on Monday searched two locations around the city in efforts to find 8-month-old Amiah Robertson.

Police have said the girl was last seen on March 9 with her mother’s boyfriend, Robert Lyons. Robertson was first reported missing March 16. On Saturday, police said the case is being investigated as a homicide.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has not revealed where the tips came from that led them to the west side and southwest side in their latest efforts to find Amiah.

Misinformation given by Lyons on possible locations that Amiah could be found complicated early parts of the investigation, according to IMPD.

A search using sonar, drones, cadaver dogs and divers turned up no leads on Monday in the search for Amiah. The girl’s grandfather said he is not only worried about granddaughter, but also Amiah’s mother.

“It is getting harder. The emotional turmoil that me, myself and my family is going through right now is just, it’s unbearable,” said Amiah’s grandfather Charles “Chuck” Robertson.

Police say Lyons is the main suspect in the homicide investigation, which was not a surprise for Amiah’s grandfather.

“He took the baby, and when he came back he didn’t have the baby with him. So, I knew then that he was the one who had something to do with it the whole time,” he said.

Robertson said he believes Lyons is capable of harming Amiah. Though he didn’t know him well, Robertson said his daughter had said Lyons was physically abusive during their relationship.

“She is scared for her life. She is scared that he is going to hurt her. She tells me all the time, she is scared that he is going to find her and hurt her,” Robertson said.

As the search continues and no arrests are made, Robertson’s concern for his family’s safety grows.

“Not only am I scared for my granddaughter, of course, but now I am scared for my daughter as well.”

Robertson has a message for Lyons: “Step up. Quit hiding. Admit the truth. Let everyone know the truth of what happened to my granddaughter.”

Amiah’s mother, Amber Robertson, is not considered a suspect in the homicide investigation.

Police still believe Amiah was last seen near Mickley Avenue and Rockville Road on March 9 between 1:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. March 9.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious near Rockville and Mickley or saw Lyons with Amiah or saw Lyons’ vehicle is asked to contact the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
