Docs: Dog starves to death after couple files for divorce, moves out of trailer

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — A dog was left behind to starve to death after a couple filed for divorce and moved out of their trailer in Greenwood, according to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Michael and Amanda Setser face preliminary charges of cruelty to an animal, a class A misdemeanor.
According to court documents, Amanda filed for divorce and left the couple’s trailer in late December. Michael then moved out as well. Neither of them took their dog, Chuck, with them.
On Jan. 17, an anonymous call was made to Johnson County Animal Control about a dog being starved to death, the documents said.
During the investigation, Amanda told officials that she told Michael that she was not going to take their pets because she had no way to take care of them. He had been calling her to get Chuck and her cats because “he wasn’t going to take care of them,” according to court documents.
The animal control officer that found Chuck said he didn’t have any water and that some dry dog food appeared to have been thrown around him.
The couple each faces up to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
