Fort Wayne man arrested for role in shooting that killed 1, injured 2
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — A Fort Wayne man was arrested Wednesday for his connection to a shooting that killed 23-year-old Mattie Wilson and injured two other men.
Nicholas Steward, 23, is facing charges of murder and attempted murder for a shooting that occurred in late June.
Around 4:48 a.m. June 25, a Fort Wayne Police Department officer heard shots being fired near the 2000 block of Greentree Court and went to investigate. The officer then saw a vehicle leaving the area, and performed a traffic stop.
During the stop, the officer found a man with a gunshot wound.
Dispatch then received several calls reporting shots fired in the Greentree Court area. When more officers arrived, they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.
The three people were taken to a local hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
Through their investigation, officers named Steward as a suspect.
Steward was later taken into custody without incident by police Wednesday morning. He is facing additional charges of aggravated battery, battery with a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness.
