IMPD Mounted Patrol Unit gets $50K donation for horse barn

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Police Department received a generous donation Friday to help build a new barn for the horses used in IMPD’s Mounted Patrol Unit.

Caesar Entertainment Group is giving $50,000 to build a permanent barn with offices for the department. The unit has been operating from a set of trailers for over 15 years.

The association is trying to raise a $1 million for the construction project.

So far the department has raised $200,000 for the new facility and equipment to help house the horses.

“Our mounted officers are patrolling on an animal that requires shelter, food, veterinary services, equipment that is different from your average police officer so we are always looking for creative ways to assist our agency,” said IMPD Deputy Chief Josh Barker.

The horses will soon move to a facility on the near northwest side of town.
