Investigation into armed robbery near IUPUI underway

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – IUPUI’s campus is clear but the university has asked people to remain vigilant.

The school alerted the community to take shelter overnight.

Police on the scene said the armed robbery happened on the other side of the canal from campus.

The university initially tweeted just before 11 p.m. Monday, saying a Black male with a gun had been seen near Indiana Avenue and West Street.

Fifteen minutes later, IUPUI reported it as an attempted armed robbery. However, it was officially reported by the school as an armed robbery around 11:15 p.m.

The university says an investigation is underway and that that is no immediate threat.
