Coroner IDs 20-year-old man killed in shooting on city’s near-northwest side

UPDATE: The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified a man killed in a shooting on the city’s near-northwest side Friday as 20-year-old Kevin Richey.

Richey died after he was shot multiple times, the coroner said. His death is a homicide.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A male died after being found with an injury from a gunshot wound on Friday afternoon, police said Friday night.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called shortly after 1:35 p.m. to a report of a person shot in the 900 block of Edgemont Avenue. That’s a residential area west of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street off 25th Street on the near-northwest side.

IMPD first informed the news media about the shooting in an email shortly after 1:50 p.m. Friday. That email said the victim was awake and breathing. Shortly after 10 p.m., another email from IMPD said the male had been taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he died.

A police report did not indicate whether the male is a juvenile or an adult.
