INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man has been convicted for his role in a 2018 robbery and deadly shooting, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Damen Lake was convicted for the murder and robbery of Williams Simmons.

Simmons was shot and killed on Oct. 7, 2018 at the Always Inn, at 7410 E. 21st St.

Another man, David Wood, previously pleaded guilty in the case and received a 30-year sentence.

Investigators say Lake, Wood and another man entered Simmons’ hotel room and demanded drugs from Simmons and two women who were inside. Prosecutors say Simmons was shot after reaching for a baseball bat.

The witnesses identified Lake as the shooter. He was arrested two days later. Police said the gun used in the murder was on Lake’s lap when he was arrested.

Lake will be sentenced on Nov. 29.
