Man critically injured when shot while driving on West 10th Street

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A man was critically injured Monday afternoon when police say he was driving and was shot by someone in another car on the near west side.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the intersection of 10th Street and Traub Avenue around 4:44 p.m. Monday on a call of a person shot.

They arrived to find a man with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. He was taken to Sindey & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and was listed in critical condition, according to Officer William Young with IMPD Public Affairs.

Police believe the victim, who was not identified, was driving by himself on 10th Street when someone shot him from another vehicle somewhere between Belmont and Traub avenues. The victim then crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of 10th and Traub.

No weapons were found on the victim, as far as police know at this time, Young said.

No description of a suspect vehicle was immediately available.
