Man dead after gunfire exchanged during search warrant in Wabash

WABASH, Ind. (WISH) — A man died Thursday after exchanging gunfire with authorities while a search warrant was being served in Wabash, according to Indiana State Police.

A SWAT team with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was serving a warrant at an apartment located at 63 E. Main St. in Wabash Thursday around 5:45 p.m. when gunfire broke out after officers entered the apartment.

Two people inside the apartment were shot. Roger Hipskind, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 35-year-old woman was taken to an area hospital to be treated for her injuries. Her condition was not released.

No officers were injured.

Authorities are investigating to confirm if Hipskind died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or if he was shot by an officer.

Police also arrested Gabrielle Bolin, 26, and Curt Bolin, 31, who were inside the apartment at the time. The two were both wanted on multiple arrest warrants.

The search warrant for the apartment was being served by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office as part of a criminal investigation being conducted by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office.

No other details have been released and the investigation is ongoing.
