LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — A man died Saturday night as he crossed Shadeland Avenue and was hit by a sport-utility vehicle, Lawrence Police Department said.
Police were called about 7:30 p.m. Saturday to a hit-and-run in the 4300 block of North Shadeland Avenue. That’s about halfway between Pendleton Pike and East 46th Street.
The man was walking west to cross Shadeland Avenue when a small, white SUV struck him, police said.
“The striking vehicle continued north without stopping, and was soon found abandoned in the Shadeland Terrace Apts near E 46th St & N Shadeland Ave.,” said an email from Gary Woodruff, the Lawrence deputy police chief.
The man was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where he died shortly after the hit-and-run.
