Man who gave gun to deputy’s killer sentenced to 48 years

Man involved in Boone County, Indiana, deputy’s death sentenced

LEBANON, Ind. (WISH) — A Lebanon man has been sentenced to nearly 50 years in prison for crimes related to the slaying of Boone County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Pickett in March of 2018.

John Ball was sentenced in a Boone County courtroom Thursday to 48 1/2 years in prison.

In September, Ball pleaded guilty to providing a firearm to an ineligible person and an additional six counts of drug charges. Ball gave a firearm to Anthony Baumgardt, the man convicted of killing Pickett.

A previous charge of murder against Ball was dropped in exchange for the plea agreement which included the new firearm charge.

Previously, Baumgardt, of Lebanon, was charged with murder in the case. He pleaded guilty to Pickett’s murder and in May of 2019 he was sentenced to life without parole.
