MS-13 gang connected to human remains found in Indy park
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A set of human remains recovered on the east side in connection to an investigation into international criminal gang MS-13 is believed to belong to a Salvadoran man who was murdered a year ago and buried there in a shallow grave, the FBI announced Thursday.
An FBI team worked with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Aug. 1-2 to locate and recover remains at Grassy Creek Regional Park, located between Mitthoeffer and German Church roads and between 30th and 38th streets.
The remains were examined by experts at the University of Indianapolis Human Identification Center, where DNA testing eliminated “all other potential donors,” leaving Israel Anibal Mejia-Martinez, whose last known address was Usultan, El Salvador, the FBI said. The FBI believes he was murdered in December 2017 and buried at the park.
The investigation into the remains is connected to an ongoing investigation into MS-13 by the Southern District of Ohio. No additional details about that investigation were immediately available.
