Neighbors heard shots before mom found teen dead

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A mother came home Thursday night to find her teenage son fatally shot.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the 2000 block of Woodglen Drive, near 79th Street and Township Line Road at the Dogwood Glen Apartments, around 10:40 p.m. Thursday on a report of a person shot.

The boy was identified Friday as 17-year-old Elijah Gordon.

When News 8 went back to the scene Friday, three bullet holes could be seen in a door of the apartment complex.

Neighbors describe the apartment complex as quiet and peaceful. They were shocked the violence hit so close to home.

“It’s quiet around here,” said Christopher Wheatley. “We don’t have problems like that. We never had anything like that since I’ve been visiting and been here. I’m here all the time. It’s all really quiet and it’s so shocking for it to be so close.”

“I have been living here for five years, and I’ve never head anything about shots,” said Bernabe Macedo. “Nothing. This is the first time.”

No additional information about the shooting was immediately available.
