Woman dies after stabbed at University Park in downtown Indianapolis

UPDATE: IMPD officers and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force arrested 43-year-old Agripino Rivera on Sunday for the stabbing death of Taylor George.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Taylor George, 24, has died after being stabbed Thursday afternoon at University Park, police say.

It was the second stabbing in that area this week, a police officer says.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were sent to a fight with a weapon around 5 p.m. Thursday at North Meridian and East Vermont streets.

Images from News 8 at the scene showed police tape around a section of University Park near its fountain. The site is just south of the Indiana War Memorial.

Officers arrived to find George, who was taken to Eskenazi Hospital where she died. Police believe the stabbing happened along a sidewalk.

After reviewing video footage and speaking with witnesses, police identified potential suspect, Agripino Rivera, 43. Police believe Rivera ran from the scene on foot.

IMPD said in a Thursday night news release, “Investigators do not believe that there is an immediate threat to the area.”

IMPD Officer William Young said a similar situation happened Monday at the same location. He provided no additional details about that stabbing.
