Police: 2 arrested after chase, shots fired by officer
WHITESTOWN, Ind. (WISH) — Two people have been arrested after a chase and gunfire from police.
The Whitestown Police Department says 33-year-old Ricki Taylor and 26-year-old Jameisha Carter, both of Chicago, were arrested after a chase in Boone County on Tuesday.
Police say the investigation began at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when a Whitestown police officer saw a vehicle speeding and driving erratically in the 6100 block of Perry Worth Road. The officer also discovered the vehicle was reported stolen in Marion County.
The officer says the vehicle then got on southbound I-65, blew out a tire, got off at the 71st Street exit, then returned to I-65 with a northbound trajectory.
An officer with the Lebanon Police Department was waiting for the suspects with a tire deflation device at a turnaround at the 128 mile marker. The suspects tried to avoid the device by using the turnaround and almost hit the officer. The officer said he fired shots when the vehicle continued toward him.
After using the turnaround, the pursuit then became southbound again. The vehicle was stopped after two PIT maneuvers between the 128 and 127 mile markers on I-65.
Police say Taylor and Carter were then arrested without further incident. Police say the pair admitted to stealing a “significant amount of merchandise” from Ross Dress for Less in Whitestown.
Taylor and Carter face preliminary charges of theft and resisting law enforcement.
Whitetown police say nobody was hurt in the incident.
