Police arrest mom of 8-year-old killed in shooting; dad still sought

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police have arrested the mother of a 8-year-old girl killed in a March shooting and say they’re still seeking the girl’s father, who left the scene of the shooting with his 3-year-old son.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrested Tiffany White, 38, on Thursday on charges of neglect of a dependent causing death, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and possession of cocaine and a controlled substance.

On March 24, White drove Kendrielle Brye, 8, from a home in the 5600 block of Culver Street about a half-mile to Indianapolis Fire Department Station 24, 5520 E. 38th St. Responding officers found the girl with a gunshot wound, and she was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, where she died, police said.

Police that night began seeking Kendrielle’s father, 40-year-old Kendall Brye Sr., who left the home on Culver Street with his 3-year-old son, who was later located safe at with family members at Riley Hospital for Children. Police want to talk to Kendall because they say he was inside the home when the shooting occurred and has information about what happened.

On April 4, police announced evidence at the scene showed Kendrielle did not shoot herself and that her death was being treated as a homicide.

Police on Friday said they continued to seek Kendall Brye Sr., who is wanted on a Community Correction warrant and sought for questioning in Kendrielle’s death. Brye Sr. is considered armed and dangerous and was driving a gray or silver 2016 Dodge Charger with license plate IP1340 when he left Culver Street, according to police.

Anyone with information on Kendall Brye Sr.’s location or the shooting is asked to called the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3745 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.

White remained in Marion County Jail on Friday and was expected in court on Monday, according to online records.
