Police arrest suspect in armed robbery of Anderson bank

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) – A suspect has been arrested in connection to an armed bank robbery in Anderson, according to the Anderson Police Department.

Police said that just before 3 a.m. Friday, a vehicle matching that of the suspect was stopped at 14th and Jackson streets.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Raymond Johnson, 32, of Anderson. Johnson has been taken into custody.

The investigation after an armed robbery that happened on the southeast side of Anderson on Thursday.

The robbery happened Thursday around 4:20 p.m. Thursday at the First Merchants Bank in the 1500 block of East 53rd Street. That’s between Columbus Avenue and Scatterfield Road, just northwest of the I-69 interchange for State Road 9.

A male suspect entered the bank and jumped onto the counter demanding money. He was armed with a handgun and fired off a single shot, police say.

The man fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured in the robbery, police say.
