Police officer shot, killed overnight in Ohio

DANVILLE, Ohio (WCMH) – A Danville, Ohio police officer was shot and killed overnight in Knox County.

Initial reports indicated the officer was shot around 12 a.m. Monday in the Village of Danville, then the suspect drove off with the officer’s cruiser.

The officer was originally believed to be missing, and a statewide alert was issued for information about his whereabouts.

A man and woman were taken into custody a short time later, according to law enforcement sources.

NBC4’s Katie Love reports several parts of Danville are taped off or have law enforcement guarding them.

Investigators are now working to determine what led up to the shooting. Agents from the Ohio Bureau of Investigation have arrived and are helping process evidence left at all of the scenes.

The name of the officer has not been officially released.

Danville is a village in Knox County with a population of just over 1,000 people.
