Police: Student slain at Indiana U. in abusive relationship

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – Bloomington police say an Indiana University student who was a fatally stabbed was the victim of an abusive, controlling relationship by a man who followed her to southern Indiana from the state of Washington.

Capt. Joe Qualters said Wednesday that on Sept. 30, the day she was found dead hours later with more than 10 stab wounds, 21-year-old Yaolin Wang had sent a text message to a friend with words to the effect that “my nightmare is back.”

Her alleged abuser, 20-year-old Chuanlin Xiao, was found hanged near her body in an apartment complex common area.

Qualters says Wang, a Chinese student, didn’t want anyone to know of the problems she was having with Xiao and didn’t seek outside assistance from school officials or law enforcement.
