Sheriff: Driver arrested for OWI after fatal Adams County crash

ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Authorities have arrested a driver that was apparently intoxicated when he crashed into another vehicle Saturday, leaving one person dead and two others injured, according to the Adams County Sheriffs Department.

Lynn Kohne, 59, of Decatur was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing death.

Emergency personnel were called to U.S. 27 and County Road 300 South around 3 p.m. The location of the crash is about halfway between Berne and Monroe.

Kohne was driving south on US 27 when he lost control and crossed into the path of a second vehicle, driven by Gary Herriford, 54, of Berne, according to investigators. Kohne was checked by medics at the scene and had no apparent injuries.

Herriford was pronounced dead at the scene. His two other passengers, Cyphia Herriford and a juvenile, were taken to two different hospitals.

Indiana State Police provided assistance at the crash.

The coroners office is still investigating Herrifords cause of death.
