Thieves swipe dozens of batteries from tractor trailers

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On Wednesday morning a fleet of tractor trailers were stalled. Workers quickly discovered the reason: someone cut through cables and pulled out the batteries to 45 semis.

The culprits struck two lots near Raymond and Kentucky Avenue. 

Both businesses declined to talk on camera. News 8 is learning that the batteries run about $150 apiece, and that they are sold on the streets for about $25 bucks. 

Surveillance cameras caught video of a pick-up truck leaving the scene of one of the lots. In the bed of the trucks were batteries and scraps.

“That is horrible as a trucker, that is like taking bread out of mouths,” said Victor Prez, a veteran truck driver. 

Back in 2016, thieves were caught on camera swiping batteries from Harbor Bridge. At the time, thieves took about 22 batteries. The suspects were caught on tape, but they were never identified or arrested.
