Woman arrested in death of man found unresponsive from street fight

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Tuesday night fight in the street between a man and woman left him dead and her under arrest in connection with his homicide, police said Thursday night.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says its officers just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday found the man unresponsive in the 2900 block of Clifton Street. That’s a residential area a few blocks southwest of the I-65 interchange for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street on the near-northwest side.

The man, who has not yet been identified by the county coroner’s office, was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital, where he died, IMPD said.

The woman, Angelita Stevenson, 30, was arrested Tuesday, IMPD said Thursday. Online court records showed no case filed for Stevenson.

The incident location in a Thursday advisory message from IMPD was listed as 1100 W. 29th St.

The criminal homicide was the city’s 230th of 2021, said Capt. Kimberly Young with the IMPD northwest district on Tuesday night. In 2020, Indianapolis had a record 245 homicides.
