Woman found fatally shot on near-east side

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Monesha McKinley.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman was found dead on the city’s near-east side Sunday afternoon, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Just after noon, police responded to the 1000 block of North Rural Street on reports of a possible deceased individual.

Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive woman. She died at the scene.

An autopsy conducted by the Marion County coroner determined that the victim died of a gunshot wound.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.
