Woman stable after shot by IMPD officer at apartments on north side

LATEST: IMPD on Oct. 7 identified the officer involved in the shooting at Sept. 29 apartments at 1900 Covey Lane as Sgt. Daryl Jones, who’s worked for the department 20 years.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A woman was stable after being shot by a police officer Wednesday night on the city’s west side, said Lt. Shane Foley of Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police were called about 10:25 p.m. Wednesday to two reports of shots fired, one in the 8000 block of Silverleaf Drive and another at the intersection of Harcourt Road and Centurion Parkway. Yellow crime-scene tape and dozens of police vehicles were outside the entrance to the Connect Apartment Homes, located just south of Ascension St. Vincent Hospital-Indianapolis.

In a news release issued Thursday night, IMPD identified the woman as Jasmine Brame, 31. The officer was not identified in the release.

A gun was taken from Brame, said Foley, who is with IMPD’s public affairs office.

Foley said no officers were hurt. IMPD says the officer who shot Brame was wearing a body camera. The officer has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation.

Police said no additional information would be provided until sometime Thursday morning.

It’s the second police shooting since Friday, when four IMPD officers fatally shot a woman after she pulled her gun during a police investigation.
