Dental records, DNA being used to identify Monroe County fire victim

MONROE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — Multiple organizations are investigating a fatal fire in Monroe County.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office, Indiana State Police and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating a fire from Monday night.

The fire was reported just after 9 p.m. in the 9600 block of S. State Road 446.

Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields said an autopsy took place Tuesday morning at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute.

Shields says “identification of the victim is pending confirmation through dental records and DNA.”

Shields also says that cause and manner of death is also pending.
