Infant dies after dog attack in Lafayette, Indiana

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — A 1-month-old infant is dead after being attacked by a dog Saturday in Lafayette, police said Monday.

According to the Lafayette Police Department, officers were called at 11:30 a.m. to a home in the 1900 block of Greenbush Street. Officers were responding to a report of a dog attacking a 1-month-old child, Julian Connell.

After arriving on the scene, officers found the animal, described as a pit-mixed breed dog, standing over the injured baby.

The dog was shot once by officers, killing the animal.

The injured infant was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Police also say that prior to the dog attacking the child, the dog was fighting was another dog, a beagle-mix.
