Driver dies in Pendleton Pike crash

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A driver died in a single-car crash Wednesday night on Pendleton Pike after fleeing another crash on the same road, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said Thursday.

Police were sent about 9:45 p.m. to the crash at Pendleton Pike and North Hartman Drive. That’s a commercial area just southwest of the Interstate 465 interchange with Pendleton Pike.

Patrolman Michael Hewitt with IMPD public affairs said the driver was fleeing from another crash on southbound Pendleton Pike and lost control, hit a curb and flipped the car. The driver was ejected and died from injuries.

Medics indicated the driver smelled of alcohol, Hewitt said in an email.

The earlier crash on southbound Pendleton Pike involved minor property damage.

The age and gender of the driver was not immediately available. The Marion County Coroner’s Office did not immediately respond to an email request for information on the driver’s identity.
