ELKHART, Ind. (AP) – A northern Indiana city is set to buy body cameras for use by police officers.
The Elkhart City Council approved Monday spending $100,000 to buy 80 body cameras for the police department. The plan is a scaled-back version of a $349,000 proposal from the mayor that also called for the purchase of new cameras for each patrol car to replace existing ones.
Elkhart police spokesman Sgt. Chris Snyder says the department hopes to get the new body cameras as soon as possible.
