Event to outline Bicentennial plan, honor Letterman

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) — Mayor Joe Hogsett will Tuesday present detail the city’s plan on how it will celebrate its Bicentennial. More than 900 community leaders will be on hand for the event, which will also mark the reopening of the Madame Walker Legacy Center and include an appearance by Indy native David Letterman.

The Madame Walker Legacy Center building, which was built in 1920, has undergone major renovations, including improvements to the roofing, HVAC systems, and bathroom facilities. Inside the Madame Walker Theatre, crews have worked to upgrade the seats, lighting and sound inside the theater, as well as provide wheelchair accessibility.

Madam C.J. Walker’s great-great granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles will be one of the speakers at the event.

Leonard Hoops, chief executive officer of Visit Indy will present the “Top 10 Reasons to Celebrate Indy Tourism.” As part of the presentation, Letterman will receive the city’s highest tourism award and mark remarks as well.

The event will take place at the Madam Walker Legacy Center and Inside INdiana Business will be on hand.
