Ex-teacher accused of showing students inappropriate photos
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A former high school teacher, accused of showing nude pictures of herself to students, has been charged with three counts of taking indecent liberties with students.
Melissa Kidd, 34, was arraigned Friday morning after detectives took her into custody Thursday afternoon. Kidd’s arrest comes after a nearly three-month investigation by the school system and police.
The police department was contacted March 31 about the alleged offenses, which happened on school property.
According to police, the two female students who reportedly saw the photos were 16 and 17-years-old, at the time.
They told investigators Kidd showed them before and after pictures of her breast augmentation. One of the students said the teacher also showed photos of her genitals, according to court papers.
The school system confirmed Kidd was placed on administrative leave back in March when the school learned of the allegation, and she resigned in April.
Child Protective Services is also involved in the investigation.
Kidd was a business teacher at the school and had been working there since August 2014.
Kidd posted a $6,000 bond Friday afternoon and was released from the jail. As part of her bond agreement, she cannot have unsupervised contact with juveniles other than her own children.
Her next court date is July 16.
