INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — FBI Indianapolis, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office are prepared for possible protests at the Indiana Statehouse and other government buildings in the coming days.

The FBI this week warned of planned protests at all 50 state capitals in the days leading up to Inauguration Day. The warning came after a riot turned deadly in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6.

“There has not been any specific and substantiated threat to the Indiana state capitol or other government buildings in the state,” FBI Indianapolis spokesperson Chris Bavender said in a press release sent to News 8 Friday. “Through a collaborative effort of federal, state, and local public safety agencies, the FBI and our partner agencies will continually monitor for potential security concerns and provide timely notification should this change.”

Authorities will respect the rights of peaceful protests, but any criminal activity, destruction of property or other intentional incitement of violence will not be tolerated, Bavender said.

Any threats to the safety of others will be investigated.

Citizens are asked to report any suspicious or suspected criminal activity by calling 911 or FBI Indianapolis at 317-595-4000. Tips can also be made by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI.
