FDA approves expanding use of HPV vaccine

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Men and women between the ages of 27 and 45 will not be able to the HPV vaccine.

The FDA approved the use of the vaccine for that age group just days ago.

The vaccine – Gardasil 9- helps prevent cancers and diseases caused by several different types of HPV.

Dr. Darron Brown, an infectious disease specialist with IU Health, stopped by Daybreak Thursday.

He discussed what this means for people in that age group, how big of an issue HPV is in the United States and why it was important that the vaccine be expanded to an older age group.
