FDA: Some Parmesan cheese doctored with wood pulp

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Food and Drug administration says there may be more than meets the eye in your Parmesan cheese. Also, a major change for Indianapolis based hhgregg.

Jane King was on Daybreak Wednesday morning with these story and other local and national business headlines.

The FDA says it’s found some cheese sellers were doctoring their Parmesan cheese with wood pulp and other fillers and selling it to the country’s biggest grocery stores. Of all the popular cheeses in the U.S. the hard Italian varieties are the most likely to have fillers because of their expense.

In other business news, hhgregg announced Tuesday that Dennis L. May will be leaving his role as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of hhgregg effective immediately. May has been with the company for 17 years. The move comes after hhgregg reported a big sales decline during the last three-month period that included the holiday sales.

Robert Riesbeck, the Indianapolis-based Electronics Retailer’s Chief Financial Officer, was appointed interim President and Chief Executive Officer.
