Firefighters rescue dog stuck in tire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Firefighters rescued a dog stuck in the rim of a tire Friday evening.

A woman brought the animal to a fire station on W. 21st Street around 5:15 p.m.

The woman told firefighters that she found the neighborhood stray stuck in the tire and needed help.

She calls the dog, who is frequently seen in the area, Jimma.

Crews worked for 10 minutes to free the dog using liquid soap and then oil. Neither attempt was successful.

A tactical unit was called to respond with extrication tools.

Several small tools normally used in vehicle extrication were tried but again firefighters were not able to free the dog from the tire.

Finally, using a tool that cuts brake pedals on cars, crews were able to make several cuts in the rim and a spreader was used to fully open it.

An hour later, firefighters had finally freed Jimma. She was not injured.
