Firefighters spend 40 minutes freeing woman from crashed vehicle

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman is in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning that shut down a far southeast side intersection.

According to police, the crash happened on Shelbyville Road just south of Edgewood Avenue around 5:38 a.m.

Police said a Jeep Cherokee was heading north on Shelbyville Road when it ran off the road and rolled over.

The woman was trapped, and it took firefighters 40 minutes to free her from the vehicle. She was rushed to IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Police sent in a crash re-constructionist because of the driver’s severe injuries.

Shelbyville Road was shut down in the area for about three hours.
