Fishers police make historic drug bust
FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) – Police officials believe a Fishers pot bust may be the largest in the city’s history.
The bust, announced Monday, started with a police officer pulling over a car last Thursday. What resulted was the discovery of 100 pounds of marijuana and $330,000 and three firearms.
DeJuan Ray Wells, 28, and Bria Davis, 21, both of Indianapolis, were arrested. According to officials, a police dog helped officers find cash and drugs in a car Wells was driving with Davis in a passenger seat. Fishers Police said Davis told investigators that the two were staying at the Residence Inn in Fishers, where officials found more cash, more drugs and a handgun.
“I’m pretty shocked,” Stephen Strong, who works near the Residence Inn, said. “Given the highway traffic, I could see why it would be a spot to be moving material or something like that, but I’ve really seen no indication of people coming and going.”
Information found at the motel led police to a storage facility in Lawrence. Inside a unit, officials again found pot and cash.
“It’s rampant all over the place,” said Fishers resident Bill Finnegan.
Finnegan said he’s lived in Fishers for eight years and this is the first pot bust he remembers, but that doesn’t mean he’s surprised by it.
“It’s frustrating but it’s happening and it’s been going on for so many years. I think the frustration kind of leaves you and it’s something you might expect.”
Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness expressed pride in the handling of the investigation, which involved law enforcement from Hamilton, Boone and Marion counties.
