Flooding, damage after storms in Jennings County

JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — There were reports of a funnel cloud in the Country Squire Lakes community in North Vernon.

Residents were especially concerned because it’s primarily a mobile home community.

Officials in North Vernon say they don’t believe a tornado hit because damage wasn’t consistent with tornadic activity.

Debris was scattered along some roads. Some roads were closed for a couple of hours due to high water. Branches had broken off, bringing down power lines.

Neighbors kept a watchful eye on the conditions.

“I don’t think it touched down but you could see the funnel cloud. It’s pointing down over trees. You can see all the trailers out here,” said Travis Woodruff.

“It was huge and dark. You could see the green and pink all around you. You could see it start to swirl,” said Virginia Anderson.

Johnson County was one of the hardest hit areas. In Prince’s Lake, a tornado touched down early Sunday morning. On Monday another storm came through. One woman had to be rescued from her home after getting trapped by debris.

So far, there have been no serious injuries reported.
