Former Hamilton County magistrate takes plea deal in drug arrest, gets no jail time
HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A former Hamilton County magistrate has been sentenced to two years after being caught in a drug sting.
William Greenaway took a plea deal for one charge of possession of methamphetamine and one count of resisting law enforcement.
However, while both charges come with a year in jail, per the plea deal, the jail time was suspended. Instead, Greenaway will be on probation, complete alcohol/drug treatment and has been ordered to pay all associated court costs and fees, according to the Hamilton County Reporter.
Police arrested Greenaway last year when he bought meth from an undercover police informant.
Investigators say he tried to hide the drugs by swallowing them, then bit the detective who tried to get the drugs from his mouth.
