Former Indy teaching assistant accused of sexual relationship with minor due in court Monday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A former middle school teaching assistant arrested for having a sexual relationship with a minor is due in court Monday.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 29-year-old Demario Thomas was arrested for allegedly carrying on a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.

Police said that while Thomas met the 15-year-old at the middle school. the relationship did not begin until after he resigned from the school in April.

According to IMPD, the relationship began towards the end of May, beginning of June.

A family member originally brought the allegations of the inappropriate relationship to police.

During questioning by police on June 25, Thomas said that he was aware of the age of minor during the age of the relationship.

After questioning, Thomas was arrested on a preliminary charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.
