Fort Wayne Gang Unit takes one person into custody
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Fort Wayne Police Department Gang Unit took one person into custody and recovered a gun during a suspicious person investigation Wednesday afternoon.
It happened a little after 11 a.m. in the 3300 block of Chevoit Drive. Officers told 24-Hour News 8’s sister station, WANE, they were investigating a suspicious person in connection with the recent gang shootings when a male took off running and dropped a gun. WANE was told that he is a confirmed gang member and police did recover his gun. Another person with him was taken into custody.
A K9 unit came out to try to track the suspect. Police said they will not back down in their efforts to investigate and stop the gang gun violence. A woman who lived in the neighborhood said she was happy to see the gang unit out in full force. Several children were in the crowd that had gathered to watch police search for the suspect and the woman said with so many kids in the area, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
