Fort Wayne man, 1 other charged with killing Indianapolis man

A Fort Wayne man and another man from Indianapolis have been charged with killing a missing Indianapolis man, whose body was found in June 2018 in Wabash County.

The body of Alexis Serrano was found by a fisherman in a wooded area of the Mississinewa State Forest in Wabash County on June 28, 2018. He was last seen leaving his north-central Indianapolis home June 2 with an unknown male, and was listed as a missing person June 6.

After an autopsy, officials declared Serrano’s death a homicide.

Authorities later charged Jose Guadelupe Maya-Sandoval, 36, of Fort Wayne and Gerardo Ruiz-Aviles, 33, of Indianapolis with murder in connection with Serrano’s death.

Maya-Sandoval was arrested Friday morning during a traffic stop in Fort Wayne, state police said. He’s being held in the Allen County Jail awaiting a transfer to Wabash County.

Ruiz-Aviles is currently serving time in the New Castle Correctional Facility for an unrelated criminal confinement conviction. He was served a warrant for murder on Tuesday.

State police said no other information on the case would be released.
