Fraternal Order of Police to help fight hunger in city
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police is stepping up to fight hunger in the city.
The orgainization announced Tuesday that it is teaming up with the Midwest Food Bank to help feed families in the community affected by the government shutdown.
According to FOP President Rick Snyder, being a police officer means doing more than just fighting crime.
“If I went into any roll call in this city and I asked them, ‘how many of you ever pulled cash out of your own pocket to help somebody in need, to help somebody that you have seen out on a street or in your interactions?’ Every hand would go up,” Snyder said. “It’s what our officers do. They don’t talk about it a lot. They don’t show it, but this is a very formalized way for them to do that.”
As part of the project, the FOP will hand out boxes of food to affected families within the Fountain Square area on Saturday.
